Smart Goals

SMART goals are very helpful in ensuring the success of the project. As a newcomer to a project management career, you may not be the person who initially set project goals, but you should be able to clarify and understand those goals. SMART goals; It helps you see the full scope of an objective, determine its feasibility, and define project success in a clear and concrete way.

<aside> ✅ Determine metrics; It is very useful for detecting progress, successes, delays and other developments on a project. As a project manager, setting meaningful metrics makes your job easier as you move the project towards the goal. In addition, by defining each element of a project goal to make it SMART, you can determine what success means for that goal and how it will be achieved.

Scope of the Project

Scope provides a clear definition and planning of the project. It means knowing exactly to whom the project will be delivered and who will use the final result.

<aside> 📝 Remember, all projects face change. All parties must be able to consistently achieve and agree on agreed-upon success criteria in order to avoid a scope shift (uncontrollable changes in the project scope) or an outcome such as the project not meeting expectations. OKR’s (Objectives + Key Results)

OKRs take SMART goals a step further by combining a goal with more detailed metrics to determine a measurable outcome.

<aside> 🔑 “O” stands for goal and defines what needs to be achieved. It defines the desired result, such as increasing the customer retention rate or improving the employee orientation process. “KR” stands for key results. These are measurable results that define when the goal is achieved.
